Garage Door Repairs in Perth

A garage door is the largest and heaviest moving object in most Perth homes, and when it stops working properly it takes your car, your storage and often your main way into the house with it. SwiftRoll repairs every part of the system: the springs that carry the weight, the cables and drums that transfer it, the rollers, guides and tracks that keep the door true, the panels or curtain that make it up, and the motor that drives it. We diagnose the actual cause rather than replacing the obvious part — a door that reverses halfway is usually a safety beam, a travel limit or a binding guide, not a dead motor — and our vans carry the common springs, rollers, cables and brackets so most repairs are finished in the same visit. Residential and commercial, every brand, right across the Perth metropolitan area.

  • We diagnose the cause, not the symptom — a halfway-reversing door is rarely a dead motor
  • Vans stocked with the springs, rollers, cables and brackets behind most faults
  • Every brand serviced: B&D, Gliderol, Steel-Line, Danmar, Centurion, Merlin, Chamberlain, ATA
  • Auto-reverse safety function tested on every visit, whatever we were called out for
  • Free diagnostic estimate before any work starts — and an honest answer if the door isn't worth it

How it works

What to expect when you call

1

Tell us the symptom

What the door is doing — the noise, the point it stops, whether the motor runs at all. Symptoms narrow the cause a long way before we arrive, so we bring the right parts the first time instead of making two trips.

2

On-site diagnosis, free estimate

We test the door under power and by hand, check its balance, and inspect springs, cables, guides and rollers. You get the actual cause explained plainly and a free diagnostic estimate before anything is touched.

3

Repair in one visit

Our vans carry the springs, rollers, cables, hinges and brackets behind the great majority of faults, so most repairs are completed on the spot rather than booked in for a return trip.

4

Balance, test and hand back

We re-balance the door, reset the motor's travel and force limits, test the auto-reverse safety function, and cycle the door repeatedly before we leave. You see it working before we pack up.

Garage Door Repairs — what customers say

Door started reversing about a foot off the ground and I'd convinced myself the motor was cooked. Turned out to be the safety beam plus a channel full of sand. He cleared it, realigned the beam, reset the limits and showed me what to look for. I'd been quoted a new motor elsewhere.
Marcus T. Applecross
Booked for a rattling door, got a proper explanation of why it was rattling. Worn rollers, replaced on the spot, and he checked the springs and cables while he was up there rather than waiting for me to ring again in three months.
Helen R. Floreat
Straightforward and quick. Told me on the phone what the noise probably was, turned up with the part on the van, and it was done inside the hour. No upselling, which after the last mob was a relief.
Daniel K. Willetton

Good to know

Garage Door Repairs FAQs

Why does my garage door reverse before it closes?

Nine times out of ten it is not the motor. The usual causes are misaligned or dirty safety beams, a travel limit set incorrectly, or something binding in the guides that spikes the force the motor reads as an obstruction. In Perth we would add a fourth: fine sand and leaf litter built up in the bottom channel, so the door genuinely is closing onto an obstruction. All four are quick to diagnose on-site and are usually adjusted or cleaned rather than replaced.

Is it worth repairing an old garage door or should I replace it?

It depends on the door, not its age. A structurally sound door with a failed spring or worn rollers is well worth repairing. A door with rusted-through slats, a corroded bottom rail or cracked panels at the hinge points is throwing good money after bad. Where you live shifts that line — a door a kilometre from the ocean at Trigg or Cottesloe ages faster than the same door in Willetton. We tell you honestly which one you have, and we quote both options where it is a genuine choice.

How long does a typical garage door repair take?

Most common repairs — a spring, a set of rollers, a cable, a safety beam realignment — take about one to two hours on-site. Curtain replacements and full guide rebuilds take longer, and if a part needs ordering for an unusual door we tell you at the estimate rather than after. Where you are matters too: a job in the hills or the far north is scheduled rather than squeezed in, and we give you a realistic window at booking.

Do you repair all brands of garage door?

Yes. We service B&D, Gliderol, Steel-Line, Danmar, Taurean and the rest, plus every common motor brand including Merlin, Chamberlain, ATA, Centurion, Avanti, Superlift and Grifco. Where a proprietary part is genuinely unavailable we say so and offer a compatible alternative rather than leaving you waiting weeks for something that may never arrive.

My garage door is really noisy — is that a problem?

Noise is your door telling you something. Screeching usually means dry or failing rollers and bearings; a rhythmic bang often means a worn hinge or a flat spot on a roller; a grinding rumble on a roller door is frequently sand in the guides. A loud snap followed by the door suddenly becoming very heavy is a broken spring, and that one should be left alone until it is inspected. None of it is normal, and all of it gets worse and more expensive.

Do I need a licence or a registered builder to have my garage door repaired in WA?

No. There is no garage-door trade licence category in Western Australia, and repairing or replacing a door on an existing garage is nowhere near the value threshold at which builder registration under Building and Energy applies. The one genuine exception is electrical: adding a new power point in the garage, or hard-wiring a motor, is electrical installation work that must be done by a licensed electrical contractor. Plugging a modern motor into an existing power point is not. We tell you which one your job needs.
